High School Athletes: Better Decisions for Better Performance
Being a high school athlete creates many positive opportunities for high school students. We also need to remember that teenage athletes are very impressionable. Unfortunately, beer and alcohol producers poor billions of dollars into their marketing campaigns each year. Much of that advertising appears on TV commercials during broadcasts of professional and collegiate sporting events which are viewed by high school athletes. This presentation teaches high school athletes, their parents, and their coaches that they need to work together to withstand the hype that couples athletic accomplishments with beer and alcohol.

- Understand the advertising machine that links athletes and athletic events with beer and alcohol.
- Be able to accentuate the many positive character traits and personal skills that can be developed by participating in athletics.
- Understand the negative impact that alcohol use will have on athletic performance.
- Understand that athletes are not protected from the risks and consequences associated with alcohol use.
- Learn that teammates, coaches, and parents can all work together and be on the same team to ignore the hype of advertisers so that high school athletes can make decisions that will enhance their performance on and off of the playing field.
